  • Man-Animal conflict.

WWF-India interventions

WWF-India is carrying out the following activities in this landscape -
  • Monitoring of elephant movements in critical areas – like Kanchanjuri, Dolamara, Lamchakhang, Kheroni, Hojai, and Amguri. This will give an idea about the present status of animal movement across the critical corridors and will help in ensuring safe passage of the animals over long term.
  • Mitigating human – elephant conflict by involving communities, which include awareness campaigns, formation of anti-depredation squads and support to these squads.
  • Mitigating tiger – human conflict by providing interim relief in case of cattle lifting and human casualties
  • Restoration of corridors; mobilising communities for habitat restoration in Panbari corridor and awareness generation in Kanchanjhuri corridor.
  • Enhancing protection in the Karbi-Anglong forest divisions, by providing infrastructure support and capacity building of frontline staff of forest department.
  • Support to Kaziranga National Park with fuel for patrolling and construction of three temporary camps.
  • Partnering with the Indian Railways to avert animal deaths due to train-hits in the Lumding-Hawaipur section
