Meet the Team
B. K. Thapa
WWF-India works in the Khangchendzonga landscape comprising of Sikkim and Northern West Bengal to conserve and restore its rich biodiversity. The work is carried out by a dedicated team. A key member of this team is Mr. Bal Krishna Thapa, fondly known as BK, driver of the field vehicle.
Originally a farmer, he joined WWF-India in 1998 and since then has been indispensable to the Sikkim field team. Not only does he fulfil his duties of driving the team to various locations through difficult terrains, he also assists them in organizing education and awareness programs with school students.
The team members greatly value his vast experience in the field, which he is happy to share with any new person. Landscape Coordinator, Ms. Priyadarshinee says, âBK is the most senior person working for WWF - India in Sikkim, not just by the number of years he has spent here, but also because of his age. He is a good team player and goes out of his way to extend his help to others in need. As a driver he is very dependable, the entire team feels safe with him behind the steering wheel.â
When asked about his time spent in WWF, BK says, âI have spent many wonderful years with WWF - India and am proud to be a part of this big organisation. We have a good team and I have learnt many new things about conservation issues.â
