Meet the Team

Jamir Ali, North Bank Landscape
Jamir Ali is a member of the North Bank Landscape (NBL) Conservation Programme team in Assam. He was among the first to join the team, in 2001-02. He has been involved in monitoring and supporting the Human Elephant Conflict (HEC) mitigation activities in the Sonitpur area. Over the past couple of years, Ali has been engaged with the International Rhino Vision (IRV) 2020 team and is monitoring the rhinos translocated to Manas National Park.

Ali is an asset to the NBL team. He helped the NBL team in the initial field studies across the landscape to establish the presence- absence of elephants and thus setting the boundaries of the ‘Landscape’. He drove the good, old office jeep across Assam and the foothills of Arunachal Pradesh, accompanying the survey team. Even after a hard day’s challenging drive, Ali would be at his enthusiastic best in the evening, cooking a delicious meal and serving the team with a broad smile! Before joining the NBL team, he was with the Assam - Arunachal State Office of WWF-India since 1996. Over the years, he has picked up other skills and become a handy field support to the team.

Ali is blessed with two sons – Hafiz (10) & Taufeeq (6) who stay with their mother in his ancestral village of Boromboi in Kamrup district of Assam.
