Meet the Team

Mr Ravi Kumar
The Western Ghats landscape, covering an area of 180,000 sq km supports around 30% of the world's Asian elephant population. WWF-India has been actively involved in this landscape since 1993 through the Biodiversity ‘Hotspot’ Conservation Programme. A part of the field team here is Mr. Ravi Kumar, whose passion for wildlife conservation brought him to WWF in 2002, where he joined the team as a part time wildlife photographer and assisted others in documentation work.

His excellent photography skills and hard working nature instantly caught attention, and soon he was given more responsibilities. He has now been working as a Program Officer for the past two years, assisting the team in tiger monitoring exercises and anti-poaching work. He also works with a group of tribal youth who are engaged in maintenance of solar power fencing which helps to reduce human elephant conflict around the forests.

Mr. Mohanraj, Landscape Coordinator, Western Ghats Landscape, who has known Ravi from the day he joined says, “Ravi has shown incredible growth in the field and can multi task very well. He shares a great relationship with the local communities as they feel he is part of them, and at the same time, he is an excellent field worker. He is good with setting up camera traps at the right locations after understanding the movement of wildlife, and has captured many tigers on them.”

When asked about his experience of working for conservation and WWF-India, Ravi says, “It’s a great honor for me to work for WWF, addressing the key environmental issues with a long term sustainable solutions. The management here is very supportive of the field staff and understands the challenges of working in tough field conditions.”
