International Polar Year - Delhi Launch

On the occasion of launch of the International Polar Year 2007-2008, the Guest lecture was delivered on Green House Gases & Global Warming by Dr. S.L. Jain, Emeritus Scientist at National Physical Laboratory at Jawaharlal Nehru University on March 1 2007, attended by academicians, scientist and public. Dr. Jain presented an overview on the Green House Gases and the changes in their concentration level post-industrialization in the atmosphere, with a focus on ozone depletion over Antarctica and the Green house effect. Mr. Ajai Saxena, Director, Ministry of Earth Sciences presentation was on the importance of Antarctica, significance of the ice cores research and a brief overview on IPY. He also outlined India’s scientific research to be conducted during the IPY. The lecture was chaired by Prof. Y. K. Tyagi, Chairperson, Centre for International Legal Studies, JNU.
