Planned Activities

WWF-India aims to facilitate a process which will bring to the fore various ministries and agencies responsible for fisheries development and management, which have bearing on turtles conservation and management like Ministry of Agriculture (including Department of Fisheries), Ministry of Commerce, Marine Products Export Development Authority, etc.

The initiation of this process is critical to conservation of marine turtles in India. The multiplicity of management authorities concerned with management of coastal and marine resources in India adds to the woes of turtles.

In the wake of growing opposition and disenchantment with protected area especially coastal and marine protected areas, WWF-India would like to support community based conservation. In recent times, there have been instances of local communities voluntarily protected turtles.
