Environment education activities being conducted by MPSO

Education And Awareness Campaign
The Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh State Office of WWF-I, as a part of Education Outreach Programme conducted “Education and Awareness Campaign” in 15 different schools comes under Pachmari Biosphere Reserve. These schools were from Chindwara, Betul and Hosangabad districts of Madhya Pradesh. The main objective to conduct this awareness campaign was to protect flora and fauna of Biosphere Reserve by providing knowledge to students who are the main stakeholders and to increase their interest in conservation of nature and protection of environment.

A series of lectures, presentation and slide shows on biodiversity, wildlife, environmental problems, water pollution problems etc were organized. The awareness campaign has generated desired awareness among the students. Moreover it gave the students who are studying in remote areas got an opportunity to learn about the environment and express their thought on issues related to ecology. To encourage the students prizes were also given during the quiz session conducted in each school.

Enviornment Education activities of MPSO

Capacity Building of the members of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) & Self Help Group (SHGs)

The M.P. & Chhattisgarh State Office organized five workshops each for members of SHGs & PRIs under the theme “Strengthening of SHG & PRI member for sustainable livelihood security with nature conservation & natural resource management”. Total of around 550 villagers includes Sarpanch, Secretary of Panchayat, school teachers, literate youth, BDOs, and CEOs of village and members of SHGs were sensitized and given training on the production of products from the local resource.

The aim of these workshops for SHGs were to impart training & dissemination of information to women about their rights, structures of power and how they can provide effective participation in local self-governance which ultimately increases the level of information for women.

For PRIs the aim was to strengthen village level organizations to take more effective part in managing community resources for sustainable development. It also seeks to enhance participation by women populations in panchayats and other local decision making forum. These workshops were organized under Sida funding which help to emphasize the role of village level organizations in promoting enterprise development, micro-credit and income generation programs and economic self-reliance for women at the village level.

National Wildlife Week Celebrations

The Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh office of WWF-India organized week-long celebrations for the National Wildlife Week. Organised in association with Van Vihar National Park, Forest Department, Bhopal, numerous activities like bird watching camp, nature trail, wildlife educational shows, movies on wildlife attracted a lot of students and parents.

On the final day Hon’ble Mr. Balram Jhakar, Governer of Madhya Pradesh graced the occasion with his presence and gave away prizes to the winners of the various competitions held during the week. He also appreciated the efforts taken by WWF and the Forest Department in the field of nature and wildlife conservation.

Eco Seminar organized by WWF-India and National Cadet Corps, Bhopal

A two-day seminar on importance of environment and conservation was organized by the Madhya Pradesh and Chhatisgarh State Office of WWF-India jointly with National Cadet Corps (NCC), Bhopal earlier this month.

The seminar – organized as a part of WWF-India’s Environment Education Awareness Campaign – was inaugurated by the district collector Mr. S. K. Mishra. Over 650 cadets from various schools and colleges of Bhopal participated in the event.

Mr. S K Mishra appreciated the efforts of WWF and NCC and emphasized the importance of environment and conservation. He said that the state government had launched a massive afforestation drive and with the help of the youth and Bhopal could be transformed into an ideal ‘Clean and Green City’.

Addressing the cadets, Mr. Mahesh Pandey, Operations Director of WWF-India urged them to make greater efforts in the field of nature conservation. He appealed to them to use eco-friendly products and make them a part of their every day life.

Col. Sanjay Pandey, Group Commander, NCC Head Quarters, also conveyed the message of environment protection amongst cadets. He ensured that the NCC cadets were the “best messenger” for nature conservation.

The programme concluded with the plantation of saplings under the ongoing ‘Haryali Mahotsav’. The cadets were asked to adopt a plant each and ensure its well being.

MP and Chattisgarh State office organises Workshop for Forest Department Officials

The Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh State Office (MPSO) of WWF-India organised four workshops in Chhattisgarh to sensitize the Forest Department personnel and the field staff of national parks and sanctuaries about provisions of Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The workshops were organized in all four circles - Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur and Raipur- covering the entire state of Chhattisgarh.

Sangita Saxena, State Director, MPSO, WWF-India, discussed case studies and the importance of forensic evidences. The legal aspects of the Wildlife (Protection) Act were taken up by R. N.Saxena.

Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Madhya Pradesh, R. N. Mishra, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Mr. Ram Prakash, Chief Wildlife Warden, Chhattisgarh Forest Department attended the workshop at Raipur among others attended the workshops.

Later, a similar workshop was organised at the Chhindwara Circle of Madhya Pradesh Forest Department.
