Assam celebrates its 41st Earth Day
Dr. Surajit Baruah, State Coordinator,WWF-India, Assam & AP while speaking to the participants explained the importance of cultivating the spirit of nature conservation and strengthening the practical environment education modules for igniting the minds of young students. Mr Utpal Bora, IFS DFO, Assam State Zoo Division spoke about the significance of Earth Day especially in a rich biodiversity region like North East and urged for sustainable actions from all sections in view of rapid degradation of our environment and forests.
A painting competition on the theme ‘Our Mother Earth’ was organized among the school children of the city to increase awareness on environment and conservation. The children were taken around the zoo giving them a practical exposure to the world of animals and plants.
