India: In a rare and moving confluence of legacy, talent, and purpose, some of India’s most renowned musical icons—Shantanu Moitra, Shankar Mahadevan, and Shaan—have come together, alongside the next generation of artists, to celebrate 20 years of Earth Hour with the Earth Hour 2026 Anthem. The result is a deeply emotional and inspiring anthem that transcends music, carrying a message of environmental responsibility, intergenerational connection, and collective hope.
Bringing together the voices of Siddharth Mahadevan, Shivam Mahadevan, and Maahi Mukherji, the anthem symbolises not just artistic collaboration but a powerful passing of the torch—from one generation to the next—echoing the urgent need to protect the planet.
At its heart, this initiative celebrates the spirit of the WWF’s Earth Hour movement, encouraging individuals and families across the globe to switch off non-essential lights on 28th March, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, and reflect on the small yet meaningful actions that can shape a sustainable future.
Reflecting on the journey, composer Shantanu Moitra shares:
“Creating the anthem for 20 years of Earth Hour is not just about melody—it is about shaping a message that transcends generations. Collaborating with Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, and their incredibly talented sons—Siddharth, Shivam, and Maahi—made this journey deeply personal. Watching them bring their voices and spirit into this piece reminded me that the Earth doesn’t belong to us alone; it is a shared inheritance. Through the Earth Hour Anthem, we hope to inspire not just awareness, but a sense of responsibility—because the future we sing about today is the one they will live in tomorrow.”
For Shankar Mahadevan, the experience was profoundly emotional:
“20 years of Earth Hour is a reminder of how a simple idea can grow into a global movement. Singing the Earth Hour anthem alongside my sons has been one of the most emotional and fulfilling experiences of my life. Music has always been a bridge between hearts, but this time, it became a bridge between generations. Every note carries a deeper meaning—a reminder that caring for our planet is not optional, it is essential. As artists and as parents, we have a duty to lead by example. This song is our way of saying that even small actions, when done together, can create a powerful impact.”
Echoing this sentiment, Shaan adds:
“For me, these 20 years of Earth Hour represent hope—hope that people care, and that change is possible. Singing the Earth Hour anthem with my son transformed the entire experience. It was no longer just about the music—it became a conversation, a shared purpose, and a heartfelt message from a father to his child. Through the anthem, I want to express something simple yet profound: that loving the Earth is one of the greatest lessons we can pass on. If the anthem can inspire even a few families to come together and take that one small step—switching off non-essential lights on 28th March between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm and reflecting—it will have made a meaningful difference.”
Composed by Shantanu Moitra, with lyrics by Tanveer Ghazi, and produced by Archit & Smit, the anthem is a testament to the enduring power of music as a force for change. The track has been mixed and mastered by Smit Ruparel, ensuring a rich and evocative soundscape that resonates deeply with listeners. Vocals by Shankar Mahadevan , Shaan , Siddharth Mahadevan , Shivam Mahadevan , Maahi Mukherji.
More than a musical composition, this anthem stands as a cultural and emotional call to action—uniting some of Bollywood’s most respected voices in a shared mission to inspire awareness and responsibility. It reminds us that while the voices may differ across generations, the message remains the same: the Earth is our shared home, and its future depends on the choices we make today.
As the world prepares to mark this milestone edition of Earth Hour, this collaboration serves as both a celebration and a pledge—a reminder that when music, purpose, and legacy come together, they can inspire a movement that echoes far beyond a single hour.
Join the movement. Switch off. Tune in. Give an hour for Earth.
