One Team, One Planet: India’s Sporting Icons Power a Nationwide Movement for Earth Hour 2026
Punjab Kings, PV Sindhu, Viswanathan Anand and Soham Desai join the movement
India: A powerful wave of support is building across India’s sporting landscape as leading teams and athletes unite to champion Earth Hour 2026, marking its landmark 20th anniversary. From cricket to badminton and chess, icons are leveraging their influence to inspire millions to take meaningful climate action.
From the world of cricket, the Punjab Kings have stepped forward as key advocates of the movement, encouraging fans nationwide to participate in this global initiative. Emphasising the importance of collective effort, Mohit Burman, Co-owner & Director - Punjab Kings shares, “Earth Hour turns 20 this year, and we are proud to stand with a movement that proves how powerful collective action can be. In cricket, we know that it’s often the smallest, smartest team efforts that change the game. Protecting our planet is no different. As one team, Punjab Kings invites fans across the country to join us on March 28, from 8:30 to 9:30 PM. Switch off non-essential lights, stand with WWF-India, and help create the Biggest Hour for Earth.”

The team further amplified the message through player-led outreach, reinforcing how small, timely actions—much like game-changing moments on the field—can create lasting impact when multiplied across millions.
Joining the movement is Olympic medallist PV Sindhu, who returns as the Earth Hour Legacy Ambassador, highlighting the importance of sustained individual action:
“I’m truly honoured to return as the Earth Hour Legacy Ambassador as this incredible movement completes 20 years. My earlier association with Earth Hour was deeply meaningful—not only because it supported a cause close to my heart, but because it showed me how powerful collective action can be. As Earth Hour marks two decades of impact, our responsibility is even greater today. I urge everyone to go beyond switching off the lights and commit to small, sustainable habits in daily life. When millions of us act together, those small steps turn into powerful change."

His message reinforces the idea that symbolic actions, like switching off lights, can spark long-term behavioural change.
