This is the Deccan- Season 1 highlights the natural biodiversity of the Deccan and the issues and concerns that face this non-protected, human dominated landscape.
One of the most critically endangered wildlife species in India, a few individuals of the GIB survive in our landscape. Conservation programmes, captive breeding and habitat preservation are the focus of the film.
A species protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, these predators were once the most widely distributed mammals on the planet. After the extinction of the Asiatic Cheetah, the wolf is the apex predator of the grasslands and rocky scrub jungles. Koppal is one of their last refuges, where DCF is protecting them.
Once found in herds of thousands, Black Buck were seen grazing in vast grasslands chased by Cheetahs, in high speed hunts across the Deccan plains. Today loss of habitat and poaching is a serious issue. We at DCF are addressing and tackling at grassroot levels.
We at DCF found this small rocky outcrop, where a family of cats were living. Over four years, we protected them. Watched them breed, hunt and bond. This is their story and our efforts to save them.
