Sustainable Forestry
India is likely to face severe shortage of supply of timber to meet its requirement from both domestic and international front.
Goal:
Promote environmentally, economically and socially sound forest conservation and management practices in India while reducing India's forest footprint on critical eco-regions in other Countries.
Our approaches:
- Develop incentives for responsible forestry practices and market linkages through the Global Forest Trade Network;
- Assess and address forest conversion for commodities such as palm oil, soy and biofuels within India and externally;
- Promote the carbon markets that support forest conservation and communities
- Create awareness and capacity building on sustainable forestry
Sustainable forest management can help redress some of the most severe problems affecting forests on this Earth, such as deforestation.
