Rajeev Gandhi Akshay Urja Divas 2010

Day One : 18th August 2010
WWF and Himurja jointly organized series of events for school students on low carbon practices to mark the Akshay Urja Divas. Paper presentation, slogan writing and poster competitions were organized for school children. Almost 200 students from 17 schools of Shimla participated in the events. Er. B.M. Sud Director Himurja greeted Chief Guest Mr. Harsh Mitter C.E.O Himurja. Vandana Thaplyal State Director WWF in her welcome speech greeted the Chief guests, Himurja officials, teachers and school students. Mr Harsh Mitter addressed the participants and said their views and concern regarding low carbon practices should not be restricted to themselves, but spread to masses.

The competition commenced after the felicitation of Chief Guest. The children were given two hours for the painting and slogan writing. Simultaneously paper presentation was commenced. The students confidently expressed their views on low carbon practices. The students putting all the experience and observing on to the canvas displayed their artistic flair. The students with great fervor participated in the competition, while others students gave their presentations. Both print and electronic media were used by the students for their presentations.

AKSHAY URJA DIVAS:
Day two: 20th August

Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas commemorating the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was celebrated in Shimla.

Students from various local schools took out a “Akshay Urja Rally” from Oak over marching towards Ridge and finally terminating at Hotel Holiday Home. Chief Minister Prof Prem Kumar Dhumal flagged off “Akshay Urja Rally” Almost 600 students participated in the rally organized by WWF and Himurja. The students throughout the rally shouted slogans for energy conservation. They also displayed the pluck cards with energy conservation slogans written on them.

While addressing the gathering Chief Minister stressed on conserving energy and said energy saved is energy generated. He also requested everyone to take steps regarding energy conservation. 
The students gathered at Hotel Holiday Home, where the winners of various events held on 18th were awarded by the Chief Guest, Mr Satpal Satti Chief Parliament Secretary. Teachers of various were also awarded for actively participating in the event. While addressing the students and others present Mr. Satti said that people should be aware of various sources of energy and need for harnessing renewable sources while conserving the non renewable. He also said that as compared to other states Himachal is commendably working on energy conservation. Mr Satpal Satti also encouraged students towards low carbon practices. Chief Guest also appreciated students’ confidence and presentations they made. He also saw the best paintings that were exhibited.
