Rapid Infra Impact Analysis Model (RIIAM) is developed by WWF India and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) with the funding from Google’s AI for Social Good Program (AI4SG). Under the project, an algorithm was developed which used a Natural Language Processing (NLP) to detect emerging news on issues that could potentially impact, or are currently impacting, conservation in places of interest.
RIIAM aims to build an effective strategy for a proposed infrastructure by developing an understanding of the effects on the quality of connected ecosystem or critical landscape. The spatial analysis and pre-planning support the decision makers to identify landscapes of greatest value first, prioritize which to preserve, then create and execute the development plan.
WWF India has been using this information to enhance their efforts towards sustainable infrastructure so that we can identify the impact of proposed infrastructure projects within WWF India landscapes and also understand the process of approval at each stage.
