New Delhi, 29th July 2024 — In a heartfelt celebration of Global Tiger Day, WWF-India has joined forces with a distinguished group of celebrities from various walks of life to underscore the importance of harmonious co-existence between humans and tigers. The event features a special tribute titled “एक ख़त जज़्बात का” (A Letter of Emotion), a poetic and musical homage to the majestic tiger.
The tribute, “एक ख़त जज़्बात का,” is a collaborative effort led by renowned composer Shantanu Moitra, who has conceived and composed the music, with arrangements and production by Archit Shah and Smit Ruparel. The evocative poem, penned by Tanveer Ghazi, conveys the deep emotional bond shared between humans and tigers, celebrating their coexistence and the ongoing conservation efforts for the big cat.
Shantanu Moitra expressed his thoughts, saying, “The tiger story of India is a success story due to the incredible relationship we maintain with the species. We live alongside tigers and understand the importance of conserving them. Through this letter to the tiger, I aim to convey the essence of our harmonious co-existence and honour this majestic species.”
The main goal of the people-centric tiger conservation approach is to establish trusted and equitable partnerships with communities residing in tiger landscapes. This strategy focusses on understanding the values and priorities of local communities, maintaining ongoing dialogue, and engaging in innovative collaborations. Such partnerships put the emphasis on trust, transparency, and continuous monitoring of conservation impacts on local communities.
On the occasion, Mr. Ravi Singh, Secretary General and CEO of WWF-India, shared his insights, “The trajectory of India's tiger story demonstrates that species recovery is possible, especially when it brings together government action, effective management, strong science and systematic monitoring coupled with community engagement and public support."
On this Global Tiger Day, WWF-India invites the public to reflect on the remarkable journey of tiger conservation in India. The event is a call to continue fostering a sustainable and respectful coexistence between humans and tigers. Through collective efforts and mutual respect, we can ensure a thriving future for our tigers and their habitats.
