Due to the nationwide lockdown, the country is faced with multiple challenges ranging from restricted movement to shortage of essential supplies in remote corners of the country, including villages located near wildlife habitats.

Local communities living in and around forests have been affected by the loss of livelihood and lack of supplies as a result of this lockdown. Despite the efforts of the local administration, several still remain stranded. WWF India is collaborating with the authorities and partners to reach out to these communities and provide support.


WWF India has worked with all the stakeholders to ensure that the required supplies are provided to the vulnerable households.

In Tamil Nadu, WWF India received requests for support from various villages in and around the Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve, Nilgiris, Erode Forest Division, Anamalai Tiger Reserve and Kanyakumari Wildlife Sanctuary. These villages are located in and around forested areas, remote and mostly inhabited by tribal communities.

Till date, support has been provided to 3250 vulnerable families residing in villages across several districts including Erode, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Kotagiri and Gudalur of the Nilgiris by WWF India in association various partners and the Forest Department. The support kits provided comprised of dry ration, masks and sanitizers and other hygiene products.

WWF India has worked with all stakeholders to supply ration and hygiene kits that include dry ration, masks and sanitizers.

WWF India extended its support to a self-help group, Navageetham NHG for the preparation of 2000 face masks. These cloth masks were then distributed in 12 tribal settlements under the Athirapally panchayat in Chalakudy and Vazhachal forest divisions by health workers.
