WWF's Initiative

  1. Project SERVE ( Save Environment and Regenerate Vital Employment) was initiated for conservation and development in Darjeeling hills by WWF-India,WBSO in 1996 with support from " Projektwerkstatt Teekampagne", Germany.
     
  2. Study on leopard and Gaur ( 1997-98)
     
  3. WWF- India objected to the conversion of Metre Gauge line beteween Siliguri and Alipurduar to Broad Gauge by filing PIL at Calcutta High court vide writ petition no 13220(W) of 2000.
     
  4. A workshop was organised by WWF-India and WWF-Bhutan during Feb- Mar,2000 on Eastern Himalaya Biodiversity Conservation.
     
  5. Education and awareness campaign for protecting river dolphins in Northern West Bengal (2006)
     
  6. Review of the Status of leopard and gaur with respect to Human-animal conflict in Northern West Bengal (2007-08)
     
  7. Study on elephant mortality due to rail accidents in Northern West Bengal (2007)
     
  8. Collaborative study on Human -Elephant coexistence in Northern West Bengal. (2008)
     
  9. Consultative meet on elephant deaths due to rail accidents (Sept, 2010)
  10. Recently from 2011, WWF-India, West Bengal State Office has initiated a project to build an agreement towards developing bilateral mechanism for conservation of elephants in this region. In this connection two consultative meetings were organized in India and Nepal with the local stakeholders.
