Associate Director – Operations

WWF-India works on conservation of wildlife and their habitat in partnership with the government and civil society stakeholders in ten conservation landscapes within India. This area of work is embedded within the Species and Landscapes Division of WWF India. We work on conservation of tigers, elephants, rhinos, red pandas, snow leopards and black-necked cranes, and their habitats. The work involves collaborative initiatives of species monitoring and active management of wildlife along with government agencies and academic or research institutions; strengthening protection in key sites; securing wildlife habitats and corridors; and partnership with civil society organizations for community based conservation. We are seeking to fill an Associate Director position for the Division to guide and supervise various aspects of the operations function in the landscapes for implementing and monitoring programmatic processes and activities. The Associate Director will help in smooth running of operations of the landscapes as well as the Species & Landscapes team in the Secretariat to meet the challenges of a national organization in a changing environment, and also help with complying with strict levels of regulatory frameworks. The Associate Director will work closely with the Team Leaders and Landscape Coordinators of the ten WWF-India landscapes. The Associate Director will report to the Director of the Species and Landscapes Programme and will work closely with the line functional Heads to implement policies of the organization. 
Location: New Delhi, with frequent travel to field sites.
The Job Profile: 
  • Provide quality leadership to the Landscape Finance & Admin teams for all operational aspects eg: Finance, procurement, field logistics, HR processes and office administration- needed to support project delivery.
  • Together with the programme team in the WWF-India Secretariat, put together a clear financial plan for project implementation in different landscapes.
  • Supervise the Finance & Administrative teams of the Species & Landscapes Division in WWF-India and ensure that they are strictly following policies, procedures, regulatory and compliance requirements in relation to Finance, HR processes, procurement and operations.
  • Provide leadership to manage the effectiveness of operations function towards supporting the Species & Landscapes Division programmatic objectives.
  • Facilitate smooth and timely fund flows to the landscapes.
  • Play a key role in shaping/ improving Policies, to achieve greater efficiency, effectiveness and operational compliance in the above areas. 
Qualifications, Experience and competencies required:
  • Post graduate degree in Finance and/or MBA.
  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience in managing operations and delivery, preferably at a distributed level in organizations in the social, development or environmental sector.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to manage a team.
  • The candidate possesses excellent operations management, financial monitoring, service delivery, team leadership, team working skills and execution skills.
  • Candidates with experience in the corporate sector, with a passion for wildlife conservation also welcome to apply. 
Desired Skills and Abilities:
  • Good writing and communication, written and oral; in both English and Hindi.
  • Excellent report writing abilities and documentation skills.
  • High-level of interpersonal, diplomatic and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team
  • Willingness to travel extensively to WWF-India field sites.
