WWF-India actively engages with the WWF International network as well as other national stakeholders on discussions revolving around policy issues related to climate change and energy. WWF-India provides inputs to the WWF International network on issues that promote a fair and equitable global climate policy agreement and renewable energy by emphasizing on appropriate response strategy from a developing country perspective.

6TH SMART CITIES INDIA 2021 EXPO - SESSION: CLIMATE RESILIENCE IN INDIAN CITIES
WWF-India hosted a session on Climate Resilience in Indian Cities on 24 March 2021, during the 6th Smart Cities India Expo organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) & Exhibitions India. The session delved upon the challenges and opportunities in integrating climate resilience in cities, especially through nature-based solutions (NBS), and showcased success stories of cities that have pioneered climate resilience in India. The session comprised of panelists representing Greater Chennai Corporation, National Institute of Urban Affairs, Panaji Biodiversity Management Committee, TERRE Policy Centre, Yamuna Biodiversity Park, and Azim Premji University. WEBINAR ON CLIMATE PROOFING SMART CITIES
WWF-India in partnership with NIUA Climate Centre for Cities (C-Cube) organized a webinar on “Climate Proofing Smart Cities” on December 21, 2020, in conjunction with a Virtual OPCC Felicitation Ceremony. The webinar provided a platform for OPCC cities to present best practices and successes in addressing climate change. The deliberations further delved on the role of cities as stakeholders in the climate and sustainability agenda.  Watch the session here.

WEBINAR ON CLIMATE SMART CITIES: POTENTIAL FOR CLIMATE-PROOFING INDIAN CITIES
WWF-India organized a session on “Climate Smart Cities: Potential for climate-proofing Indian cities” on October 23, 2020, as part of the 50 years’ webinar series “Nature Matters”. The session convened senior policymakers and city representatives to share insights into challenges, opportunities, successes, and ways to implement progressive actions, plans, and policies to address climate change. The discussions further sought to explore coordinated approaches at the local, state, and national levels to facilitate the transition towards a climate-smart future for Indian cities. WEBINAR ON ‘SUSTAINABLE MOBILITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE’ – A PERSPECTIVE OF BENGALURU
WWF-India and Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP) organized a Webinar on Sustainable Mobility and Climate Change’ – a perspective of Bengaluru on June 5, 2020. The webinar convened relevant stakeholders for a dialogue on challenges & opportunities for sustainable mobility in Bengaluru and its role in addressing climate change and the related issue of air pollution. The discussions were based on the findings of a “Perception survey on sustainable mobility in Bengaluru” carried out by WWF-India. Read the perception study here.

OPCC 2019-20 - STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION MEETINGS
Gangtok- 19th to 22nd June 2019 | Guwahati - 1st July 2019 | Nagpur - 20th November 2019
In order to strengthen the participation of cities in OPCC 2019-20, it was crucial to engage with various stakeholders at the local-level to address the data gaps and ensure robust and comprehensive reporting of the city’s climate actions. Hence, sensitization workshops and meetings were conducted for the relevant stakeholders, in collaboration with the respective municipal corporations of Gangtok, Guwahati and Nagpur during OPCC 2019-20.

5TH SMART CITIES INDIA 2019 EXPO - SESSION: CLIMATE SMART
WWF-India hosted a session on Climate Smart Cities on 23 May 2019, during the 6th Smart Cities India Expo organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) & Exhibitions India. The session panel comprised of representatives from Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (Govt. of India), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Govt. of India), Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited, Pune Municipal Corporation, Indian Institute of Public Health, Gandhinagar, KPMG and Yes Bank. The discussions aimed towards providing a comprehensive perspective on the role of cities in addressing climate change. In particular, they showcased pioneering efforts of Indian cities in mainstreaming sustainability and resilience in their actions and plans to secure a better future for citizens. In addition, an integrated approach towards climate change and local environmental issues impacting cities such as air pollution was also discussed.
Stakeholder Consultations on Role of Cities in Addressing Climate Change | 10 & 29 May 2017
WWF-India organised two stakeholder consultations in Rajkot and Pune, in collaboration with the Rajkot Municipal Corporation, Climate Change Department, Government of Gujarat , Surat Climate Change Trust; and Pune Municipal Corporation, respectively. The objective of these workshops was to convene relevant stakeholders at the city level to understand the role of cities in addressing climate change, both as part of a solution as well as in building resilience against the impacts of climate change, in the local and global context. These were also aimed to facilitate sharing of best practices and experiences in implementing sustainable practices, among the cities. The workshops had a significant impact in fostering networking and creating a community of practice amongst multiple city stakeholders

Workshop on “Role of Cities in Addressing Climate Change” for OPCC Cities | 19 March 2018
WWF-India organized a workshop on “Role of Cities in Addressing Climate Change” in collaboration with Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management, and Department of Climate Change, Government of Gujarat, on 19 March 2018 at Gandhinagar, Gujarat, for the city officials from the participating cities of One Planet City Challenge (OPCC). The workshop was aimed at sensitizing city officials regarding the climate change challenges and the role of cities as part of the solution as well as building climate resilience. The workshop was followed by site visits to demonstrate the initiatives of the cities to integrate climate change in their actions and plans. The site visits were held in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Pune, to showcase the best practices, such as BRT Corridors, Smart Housing Projects, Waste Treatment Plants, Solar Rooftop Plants, Street Resigned Sites, etc.

Business Perspectives on Rooftop Solar PV Market in India
A workshop on “Business Perspectives on Rooftop Solar PV Market in India” was jointly organized by WWF-India and Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) on 29 June 2016 at WWF-India, New Delhi. Bridge to India was the Knowledge Partner for the workshop.  A range of key stakeholders participated in the workshop including, renewable energy developers, utilities, financial institutions, bilateral organisations, think-tanks, consultancy firms, and commercial and residential consumers of solar rooftop. The objective of the workshop was to facilitate a multi-stakeholder discussion to understand the perspective of private sector players on the current ecosystem of rooftop solar PV market, business models in place, and identify key challenges and possible solutions. It also aimed to contemplate/explore possible interventions to jumpstart the rooftop solar market through innovative finance mechanisms and consumer awareness. 
The workshop was structured around two themes - the first on understanding the “Business Case for the Commercial and Industrial Rooftop Solar Segment in India” and the second on "Creating Momentum for the Residential Rooftop Solar in India” .

Understanding Impacts of Renewable Energy Scale Up on Ecosystems and Biodiversity
WWF-India and GEER Foundation jointly organized a stakeholder meeting on “Understanding Impacts of Renewable Energy Scale Up on Ecosystems and Biodiversity” at Gujarat Ecological Education and Research (GEER) Foundation, Gandhinagar, Gujarat on 5 May 2016. The stakeholder meeting was convened to discuss issues related to ecological impacts of renewable energy and deliberate future strategies. Key stakeholders from government, research/academic institutes, project developers, and civil society organizations are expected to join the deliberations.
 
The workshop was structured around two main technical sessions - Understanding Impacts of Scaling up Renewable Energy Projects (Solar and Wind) on Ecosystems and Biodiversity and Exploring Strategies for Ecologically Sustainable Renewable Energy Deployment in India.
 
Key stakeholders from government institutions, civil society, think tanks, project developers, academic institutions and research organizations, were invited to deliberate upon assessing existing work on the ecological impacts and possible potential ecological impacts of massive renewable energy scale up in India. Apart from identifying issues and impacts, the later session was designed to discuss best practices in biodiversity management and possible management strategies in terms of policy, technical and capacity aspects. Based on the feedback and inputs from the meeting, certain action points were identified for further detailed analysis as well as synergies with initiatives undertaken by other organizations would be explored.

A Scoping Study on Climate Finance in India
Green Finance has the potential to accelerate advancements in low carbon development, renewable energy at scale, enhancing energy access and promoting climate innovation in India. A scoping study has been conducted that analyses the status of Climate Finance in the country and maps the key issues, players, gaps and opportunities. The study was conducted in partnership with Institute for Financial Management and Research (IFMR), Chennai.

Energy Access Workshop
WWF-India works towards activities that ensure easy, sustainable and cost-effective access to energy to the vulnerable section of the country. With a view to support the International Energy and Climate Initiative, Energy+, launched in late 2011 in Oslo by the UN Secretary General and Norwegian Prime Minister, WWF-India organized a civil society consultation on Energy+ in November 2012. Energy+ aimed to support transformational change in the energy sector of developing countries by investing in renewable energy and energy access towards twin goals of universal access to sustainable energy and avoidance of GHG emissions. This event received participation from various organisations, comprising of NGOs, government entities, research organisations and private sector enterprises.

A workshop on “Building Momentum for a Clean Energy REvolution: Rooftop Solar as a Key Solution”
A workshop on “Building Momentum for a Clean Energy REvolution: Rooftop Solar as a Key Solution” brought together a range of key stakeholders, from government bodies, utilities, financial institutions to think tanks and renewable energy developers. The workshop envisaged to further the momentum for rooftop solar markets, a vital component of India’s ambitious 100GW by 2022 solar target, by facilitating enhanced dialogue, interaction and cooperation among various stakeholders to help the Indian government achieve the target.
