WWF APSO in collaboration with the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board successfully organized the World Environment Day celebrations at Hyderabad. A press conference was organized on June 3 where prominent members of the society from various fields came together to promote the celebrations. These included Duggupati Rana, eminent film star, Mr. M. C. Pargaien, Special Secretary, Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board and Mr. Surender Raj, Joint Chief Environment Engineer.

On June 5, approximately 700 children from Oxford Grammar School, Zilla Parishad High School-Jagathgiri Nagar and Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Public School marched together from the Chief Minister’s Camp office in Begumpet to the Guru Gobind Singh Sports Complex in Ameerpet. The rally was flagged off by the Hon. Chief Minister K.Rosaiah along with host of other Ministers and Senior Bureaucrats.

The students’ were holding placards with conservation messages, like, “No biodiversity- No food. No medicine!!” “If we save the tiger, we can save them all”, in various languages highlighting the importance of sustainable development and conservation of biodiversity.

Sri K. Madhusudana Rao, IAS, Member Secretary from the APPCB addressed the students on the importance of the environment and natural resources and their role in its conservation. He encouraged the student and teacher communities to come forward with innovative ideas in order to promote conservation in the state. This was followed by various competitions like mask making, face painting, and quiz for the students.
